592,669. Constructional toys. TINSLEY WIRE INDUSTRIES, Ltd., and CLIFFORD, W. Nov. 22, 1944, Nos. 23168/44 and 1469/45. [Class 132 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXV and XXVIII] Structures are formed by rods joined together by a coil or coils of wire, the internal diameter of each coil being such that it is an easy fit on the rods and each coil being slightly curved in the direction of its length. A toy chair (Fig. 1) is formed from wires or rods of metal or other material joined by wire coils b, b', b<2>. Each of the coils b has its two halves bent at an angle, shown as a right-angle, and each half is curved longitudinally to improve its grip upon the rods. The coils b', b<2> are similar to the coils b but have one half offset relative to the other, to the right and left respectively, so that the two intercrossing rods may be joined. Co-linear rods may be joined by a single straight spring. Rods of half round section may be used and to join two intercrossing rods of this form, the rods are first threaded in a coil b with their flat surfaces in contact and then one or both is rotated (Fig. 11) to distort the coil b in order to obtain a strong joint. Three intercrossing rods may be joined by two bent coils and the ends of three rods may be joined by first joining two ends with a bent coil and then joining the third end to the bent coil by means of a plain coil and a small bent metal rod.
