Hair-curling appliances.-An appliance for mechanically winding hair on a curler in the process of permanent waving, comprises a hinged spring clamp for the curler and a feed-way through which the hair is drawn and combed as the device is rotated bodilv around the curler. The device comprises a cover plate 2 hinged at 3 to a lower portion 4 having side walls between which the cover fits. The lower portion 4 is provided with a housing 5 containing an upwardly spring-pressed V-shaped platform 6 which is adjusted bv a nut 10. The upper portion 2 is provided with a cross-piece 11 mounted on a spring finger 12 and adjusted by a milled-head 14. A number of pin members 15 are provided at one lend of the cover 2 to form the combing device. The cover is held in the closed position by a clip device 16, and lugs 20 are provided to extend - across the joints between the upper and lower members. Wire members 21 are fitted to guide the hair into. the channel portion of the device. In operation, the end of the curler 1 with a strand of hair attached thereto is placed upon the platform 6 and the hair laid along the. channel portion, as indicated in Fig. 1. The device is then closed and rotated bodily around the curler until the hair is wound tightly in a spiral nearly to the desired extent, when a piece of lint &c. 18<a> is introduced between the platform 6 and the curler and wound around the remaining portion of the hair. The appliance can now be slidden clear and the hair held on the curler by means of a ,piece of string &c. The hair is then subjected to heat with or without the use of a lotion &c. The cross-piece 11 serves as a tensioning device during winding. The platform 6 is capable of a rocking movement.
