Pneumatic relay sound-boxes. - A pneumatic sound-amplifying device for phonograph soundboxes, telephones, and like acoustic apparatus comprises two superposed valve plates a, m having in their central portions staggered apertures, one plate a serving as a support for the other m, which is clamped peripherally and acts as a diaphragm. When the diaphragm m is vibrated, either by means of a stylus coacting with a sound record or electromagnetically, as in the construction shown, compressed air escapes through the valve apertures as the plates are intermittently separated. The apparatus shown comprises a box-magnet ! l through which the air passes from an inlet p to the valve plates. The central pole of the magnet is surrounded by a coil q which receives current impulses. A movable portion k of the core is connected to the diaphragm m. A damping ring d of rubber or the like rests on the diaphragm.
