Chair-plates; chairs, securing to sleepers; chairs. - In a chairplate a for flange rails, the rail seating c is flat and divided and relatively short compared with the width of the chair or its sleeper. The cast, forged, or rolled chairs are milled or shaped so that the seating c is about one-third the width of the chairs, the ends being inclined. The chairs are secured by four fastenings, two of which secure the rail and are supported by a projection g, rib, or continuous flange formed on or secured to the chair. In an alternative form, the chairs may have depressions or holes near the spike holes receiving projecting metal pieces which are pressed or riveted in place,. and in the latter case the depressions may be omitted. The projection may be formed by the head of a rivet secured to the chair.
