Abstract
A centrifuge for separating solids from liquid comprises a cylindrical sleeve part (1) and a conical sleeve part (2) connected thereto to form a drum and a screw conveyor arranged coaxially in the drum. The screw conveyor comprises separate cylindrical and conical parts (3), (4) connected together by means of a gearing (26). The cylindrical and conical parts of the screw conveyor rotate at different speeds with respect to the drum and liquid is collected from the drum part (1) and separated solids from the drum part (2). In operation, the helix of the cylindrical part (3) of the screw conveyor rotates in an opposite direction to that of the conical part (4). This may be achieved by arranging that the helices on the two parts of the screw conveyor run in opposite directions or by means of the gearing (26). <IMAGE>
