Abstract

A pump arrangement 10 for feeding liquid to a filter press 11 comprises a sludge pump 12 powered by a hydraulic ram 13, fluid for ram 13 being supplied by a hydraulic pump 14 e.g. a variable displacement swash-plate or vane-type pump driven by a prime mover 15, e.g. an electric motor or I.C. engine, the hydraulic pump 14 being so constructed that its power input from prime mover 15 falls as its rate of delivery falls in response to increased pressure in the line 24 from the hydraulic pump 14 to the ram 13. <IMAGE>
