Abstract

A cast iron material having the following composition by weight: Carbon from 3.20 to 3.90% Silicon from 0.50 to 1.50% Manganese from 0.10 to 1.20% Copper from 0.50 to 1.00% Aluminium from 1.50 to 3.00% Manganese from 0.10 to 1.20% Sulphur less than 0.010%, the balance being iron and impurities. The material may be annealed at a temperature of at least 920 DEG C, and/or subjected to a carbo-nitriding treatment at 820-860 DEG C to produce a wear resistant surface layer.
