Abstract
A process for the preparation of gases from heavy oils comprises the steps of atomizing a heavy oil having a flowability at a temperature lower than 250 DEG C under atmospheric pressure and containing high- molecular-weight hydrocarbon components incapable of gasification by heating and temperature elevation, passing the atomized heavy oil particles together with steam through an externally heated high temperature space and then passing the resultant product through a layer of a catalyst comprising alkaline earth metal oxides and being packed in a space defined only by heat-transferable partition walls heated from the outside or by partition walls, a part of which is heat- insulating and the remainder is heat- transferable and heated from the outside.
