Abstract

A pneumatic tire tread 12 comprising a plurality of spaced independent blocks 14 has a central zone C and two shoulder zones A, B in which the depth of recesses 20, 24 separating the blocks 14 is less than the depth of recesses 22 in between the blocks 14 in the remaining zones D, E of the tread. The width of zone A may be 5-20% and that of each zone B, C 10-20%, of the tread width W, and the depth of the recesses 20, 24 may be 25-60% of the depth of the recesses 22. Sipes 26 may be provided in the bases of the recesses 20, 24. <IMAGE>
