Abstract

Apparatus for harvesting mushrooms and the like grown on a flat bed comprises a cutting blade 10 mounted in a frame 1 which is movable along the bed so that cutting edge 11 extends transversely to the direction of movement of the frame, there being drive means for moving said blade with a reciprocating movement to cut mushrooms as the frame is moved along the bed, and a conveyor 21 extending behind the blade and having a conveying surface which extends parallel or substantially parallel to the cutting edge 11 and which moves in a direction transverse to the intended direction of travel of the frame, and wherein the blade 10 has a portion which slopes obliquely rearwardly and which has a rear edge leading smoothly on to the conveying surface of the conveyor. An endless belt 25 provided with bristles is mounted above blade 10 and gently moves cut mushrooms over the sloping portion of the blade towards the conveyor. <IMAGE>
