Abstract

A transfer apparatus comprises a sealed tank 1, two non-return valves 4, 5 connected to a suction opening 2 and a discharge opening 3 respectively of the sealed tank 1, a rotary vacuum pump 9 connected to the upper portion of the sealed tank 1, and a change-over means for reversing the vacuum pump 9 in which by means of the vacuum pump 9 air is discharged out of the sealed tank 1 and liquid is sucked into the sealed tank 1 and then the rotation of the vacuum pump 9 is reversed by the changeover means to introduce air under pressure into the sealed tank 1 whereby liquid in the sealed tank 2 is transferred under pressure. Two alternately acting tanks may be used with one or two pumps. A two-stage liquid ring pump modified to give efficient reverse operation is described. <IMAGE>
