Abstract

A method of making a woven fabric for use in making protective cloth or clothing, comprising blending a flame-retardant fibre and a wool fibre of substantially the same denier, carding and spinning the blended fibres to form a yarn, weaving the yarn to form the fabric, milling the woven fabric, and finishing the milled fabric, in which the operating parameters are controlled so as to obtain a fabric which, when formed into protective cloth or clothing, is sufficiently dense and flame-retardant as to resist injurious penetration of a flame and/or heat through the fabric to the user.
