Abstract

When the coolant temperature is above the desired value, the electric motor 1 driving the radiator fan is energized via contact 6 of a thermostatic switch, and when the coolant temperature is below that value, the motor is connected via contact 8 to a device 10 energizable by current produced by operation of the motor as a generator when the fan is driven by ram air flow, whereby the device reduces the fan speed and thereby prevents it from becoming excessive. The device 10 may be a braking resistor or may be a solenoid for closing radiator shutters or a mechanism for feathering the fan blades. A thermal cut-out 12 in series with the device 10 guards against excessive heating. <IMAGE>
