Abstract
A vacuum fluorescent display device contains solid state drive circuitry 46 and a multisegment display 50 within an evacuated container. The arrangement counters duplication of certain mechanical, chemical and sealing operations common to the display device and IC and reduces the number of hermetic seals through which electrical connections pass. Lines 58, 60 may be on the front or rear face of the substrate or between one or more insulating layers, or some parts may be on one surface and other parts on another surface. The display may be a digital clock 44. Alphabetic and line indicators are also exemplified. <IMAGE>
