Abstract

The quantity of fuel in a vehicle tank 10 is computed in an evaluation circuit 40 from the signals from transducers 11, 12 proportional respectively to the quantity of fuel filled into the tank and the quantity of fuel drawn by the engine. The evaluation circuit comprises an up-down counter which counts "up" when the tank is filled, the direction of count depending upon whether the vehicle ignition is switched on or off. The quantity of fuel is displayed on a voltmeter 30 or alternatively on a digital display which forms part of an indicator 20. The up-down counter is reset by the tripping of one of two depth switches 17, 18. The signal proportional to fuel drawn from the tanks is also used to provide an indication of fuel consumption rate. The indication is in the form of illuminated elements 21 each being associated with a speed of a speedometer and each element 21 indicating the optimum fuel consumption rate at the associated speed. A further illuminated element 22 indicates an abnormal fuel consumption rate. <IMAGE>
