Abstract

A heat exchanger consists of a corrugated plate 17 sandwiched between opposed surfaces e.g. of respective walls 16, 21 with which surfaces the corrugations are in contact so as to define parallel ducts 18, 22 between the surfaces. The surfaces are joined (e.g. by a closure 23) at a location beyond a first end of the corrugated plate 17 and at said location the ducts 18 and 22 are in communication with each other. At its opposite end the corrugated plate 17 extends longitudinally beyond at least one of the surfaces (e.g. surface 21) where closure means 24, 27 close the ends of ducts 22 and thereby prevent communication between the ducts 18, 22. The wall 16 may be the wall of a combustion chamber 14 containing a burner 15 for heating a gas (e.g. air) or a liquid flowing through the passages 22 and then through the passages 18 to an outlet 13. Two such heat exchangers may be disposed one within the other around the wall 16. <IMAGE>
