Abstract

A heat exchanger includes a porous metallic structure having continuous three-dimensional pores formed around a heat transfer tube 4 and unitarily fixed to the latter. The tube is embedded in a mold 5 which is formed from a three-dimensional network-like resin pattern and a hardenable moulding material. The resin is removed to leave pores which are filled with molten metal 7. Subsequently, the mould is removed to leave the heat transfer tube surrounded by the porous metallic structure. <IMAGE>
