Abstract

Catalysts for the production of VCM contain a salt of rhodium or platinum, a salt of iron or copper and a salt of zinc, impregnated on an alumina, titania, zirconia, silica, or silica/alumina support. The catalysts can be employed in a fixed bed or fluid bed reactor to produce vinyl chloride adiabatically from a feed stream containing ethylene, a source of chlorine, a source of oxygen and, optionally, ethylene dichloride.
