Abstract

Air filter for internal combustion engines has a filter housing (2) composed of upper and lower parts (3,4) and accommodating the filter element (12), with an air outlet opening (20) connectible with a suction system and an air inlet opening (26) into which there opens an air intake (5) connected in sealed manner with the filter housing, characterised in that between filter housing (2) and air intake (5) there is provided a shut-off member (21) which closes the air inlet opening (26) when the internal combustion engine is stopped to prevent outward flow of fuel vapours from the engine and opens the air inlet opening (26) when the internal combustion engine is in operation. The filter may be associated with a valve (7) for mixing hot and cold intake air in dependence upon the working conditions and an adsorbent device (15) for removal of fuel vapours from the filter housing and fuel tank (18) for passage to air outlet (20). <IMAGE>
