Abstract

Sheets, especially paper sheets, entering the nip between a pair of rollers are detected through causing interruption of the electrical connection between a sensor contact at or near the nip and a conductive surface on one of the rollers. The contact is resiliently biassed against that surface. Operations in a sheet-processing apparatus (for example, an electrostatic copying apparatus) are controlled in response to the detection of sheets. The sensor contact may comprise one or more resiliently flexible members, may be located in a recess in the roller not having the conductive surface, and may be mounted on a removable support for purposes of exchange and/or repair. The described device reduces the possibility of damage to sheets during transport, and of interference in sheet transport, while allowing sufficient contact pressure to allow the use of currents high enough for reliable control purposes. <IMAGE>
