Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the toner image fixing defect on the conveying reference line side by providing a spacer in the position of the side opposite from the reference line and forming a spacing which gradually decreases in the direction going from the spacer toward the reference line between rollers at the fixing dwell.

CONSTITUTION: Large-diameter flanges 11, 12 are provided to the ends of the upper and lower rollers 1, 2 on the side opposite from the side where the zero line L exists. While the both portions 11, 12 are mutually contacted, the diameter of the rollers 1, 2 of the end on the zero line L side is made the same as the diameter in the central part of the respective rollers and are mutually contacted, whereby the clearance G of the width gradually increasing in the direction going toward the zero line L from the flanges 11, 12 is formed between the rollers 1, 2 at the time when copying paper is not sandwiched, i.e., while fixing is not in operation. The width of this clearance G is made smaller than the thickness of the copying paper and larger than the thickness at the breakdown deformation at the point where the side edge L' of the side opposite from the zero line of the copying paper S₁ of the maximum width size to be processed is ought to pass. Thereby, the fixing defect of a toner image may be eliminated.
