Abstract

The braking system for an agricultural-type tractor and trailer includes a valve mechanism for alternatively controlling the fluid pressure in spring brake actuators fitted to the trailer in accordance with tractor braking effort and regulating the output from a pump (32) for releasing the spring brakes. A spring loaded spool (41) both admits pressurized fluid from the pump (32) to a fluid passage (54) in communication with the trailer brake actuators and exhausts fluid from these actuators to a drain passage (49) dependent on the spool (41) position. The spool (41) is acted on by both actuator pressure, via passage (55) and, through piston (61), by a control pressure, dependent on tractor braking effort to reduce the actuator pressure, thereby applying the spring brakes, with increase of control pressure. <IMAGE>
