Abstract

A method of testing a fluid comprises passing a main flow of a fluid through a conduit 20, inserting into said conduit a cylindrical probe 22 having an inlet opening 24 which faces downstream of the conduit 20 and which communicates with an outlet opening 25 which is disposed in an end surface 26 of the probe, the said end surface 26 being disposed within and spaced from the wall of the conduit 20. The said main flow, in passing through the conduit 20, causes a sampling flow of the fluid to be drawn from the conduit 20, and to be passed through the probe 22 from the inlet opening 24 to the outlet opening 25, and so back to the conduit 20. Testing is effected of said sampling flow. The method reduces the amount of dirt in the sampling flow. Flow, density, temperature, pH, a chemical or physical property may be measured. <IMAGE>
