Abstract

200,202. Brunt, P. April 7, 1922. Bore-hole apparatus. -In a well-boring tool comprising a body member containing a spring-pressed mandrel carrying expanding cutters, the body member is in two parts a, b, and the upper member a forms a closure for the bore g in the lower part b which contains the mandrel h. A shoulder f at the lower end of the bore carries a gland o supporting the spring i. The cutters p are carried by lugs q at the lower end of the mandrel; inclined surfaces r on the cutters co-operate with similar surfaces s on the body to force the cutters outwardly as the spring moves them upwardly relatively to the body. Ribs p<4> limit the outward movement of the cutters. Holes t in the cutters receive means for pulling the cutters downwardly to collapsed position to permit passage of the tool through a well casing. Lubricant is carried in the bore g. Flushing fluid passes through a branched passage f in the upper body part a to an annular groove b<1> and thence through lateral passages in the lower body part. The cutters shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 7 may be replaced by cutters u as shown in Fig. 14.
