Abstract

200,128. Biddle, J. L., and Bucknall, S. P. Feb. 23, 1922. Coating-machines.-A roller 7 takes a label from the top of a pile 4 on a movable plate 5 in a box 3 and passes under a guide 18 to gumming and printing rollers 19, 32, whence it passes over guide bars 25 to a bevelled stop 30, which bows it slightly in the middle, so that it may be more easily picked up. The plate 5 is pressed upwards by a spring 6, and can be depressed by means of a lever 41, moving in a guide 45 provided with a spring latch 44. The labels are held in place by guide plates 15 and a spring plunger 13. The roller 7 may be of metal with a milled surface and a serrated rubber cover. The gumming roll 19 rotates in a trough 21, supplied with gum through a float-valve. The printing-roller 32 is provided with roughened surfaces by which it is driven from the gumming-roll. It is mounted on a spindle 33 carried on spring arms and raised at intervals by a cam. On the spindle 33 are carried an ink-reservoir 35 and inking-pad 36.
