Abstract

The invention relates to a process for stabilising nitrocellulose and particularly, to a process for stabilising pre-deacidified nitrocellulose before pressure boiling. According to the prior art problems exist in achieving preliminary stabilisation of nitrocellulose during its production prior to a pressure boiling step. Satisfactory stabilisation could not be obtained unless severe treatments or extremely long stabilisation times were employed. This invention discloses that preliminary stabilisation can be achieved by intensively washing a nitrocellulose filter cake as it is being centrifuged at 1000 to 1600 rpm using warm water sprayed on in an amount of 1 to 10 times the amount of nitrocellulose. Only very short washing times of 15 to 30 seconds are required.
