Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the time needed for heat treatment after die casting by drawing a brass liner; annealing it under specific conditions to lower the hardness; and unifying the liner and a cylinder block by aluminum die casting.
CONSTITUTION: A brass liner is dreawn and annealed at below 400°C for above 12 min to lower the hardness to below Hv 125 as well as to relieve drawing stress. thus minimizing deformation due to heat. The liner and a cylinder block are then unified by aluminum die casting. Next the unified block is subjected to heat stabilization treatment for about 5 hr. Since the internal stress of the liner has been relieved by the annealing, the time needed for the treatment is considerably reduced as compared with conventional about 10 hr and unevenness in quality of products is improved.
