Abstract
199,135. Crowe, D. C. March 16, 1922. Relays.-An electromagnetic relay designed for the selective actuation of any one of a. number of contacts has a single magnetic circuit, a plurality of armatures, and a winding forming a closed loop and divided into a number of sections by flanges of magnetic material provided on the core. The end sections c of the core, connected by a magnetic yoke a, may for convenience be arranged at right angles to the remaining sections b. The winding has tapping-point connections between adjacent sections, the point between the sections c being permanently connected to one pole of a battery h. The other pole of the battery may be connected selectively to any one of the other points, the current supplied dividing at the selected point and producing a magnetic pole in the corresponding flange and attracting the corresponding armature f to close the required contact. Arrangement may be made whereby each armature can be made to operate selectively any one of a number of contacts. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement whereby the number of contacts may be twice the number of armatures. Each armature f is adapted to raise a pin k, the lower end of the pin resting on the armature, the upper end serving to close the contact. Each pin passes through a hole in a fixed plate i, and through a hole in a plate l which can be shifted by an electromagnet m, so that the upper end of the pin engages with either of a pair of contacts g as desired.
