Abstract
198,307. Gelderen, F. M. van. Feb. 9, 1923. Sleeve couplings.- Insulating caps 1 for use with the bare ends of various sizes of electric cables 8, comprise a funnel-shaped entrance 2 leading to a cylindrical bore 3 provided with a metal wire helix 4 tapering from the entrance and preferably also from the opposite end. The diameter of the helix at the narrowest part is less than the diameter of the smallest bunch of twisted wires to be joined and insulated and the diameter of the entrance end is greater than the diameter of the thickest joint. The helix only lies close against the inner wall of the cap at its inner end whereby the rest of the helix may be expanded as required. When the helix is formed with a double taper as shown in Fig. 2, the bore is screw-threaded and the inner end of the helix adapted to be screwed therein. The funnel-shaped entrance 2 may also be screw-threaded and the inner wall covered with a layer of paraffin &c. The inner end of the helix may be fixed to the cap.
