Abstract

198,256. Martin, W. E. July 14, 1922. Haymaking.-Rigid tines b formed of strips of flat metal are secured to the rake-heads a of sidedelivery rakes and swath-turners by clips that are adapted to yield under exceptional stress. Each clip is formed on its front face with one long or two short lugs c to fit in front of the rake-head a. The clip is normally held against the rake-head by a spring e surrounding a bolt d which passes through apertures in the clip and the rake-head, 'but may yield as shown in Fig. 3, the aperture in the clip being cut away at c<1> to permit such yielding. The tine b is preferably formed with a projection g that engages in a recess in the clip. A shield f prevents hay from entering the clip. In a modification, the bolts d secure the tanas and the clips to a bar attached to the rake-head, thus permitting several tines to be removed together. Specification 197,531 is referred to.
