[Class 6 (iii)] A finger comprises a body portion 10 with an integral point and is provided with the usual ledger plate 12 secured at its rear end by a rivet 13, a groove 15 being formed in the lower portion of the finger behind the plate 12 to receive the reciprocating cutter bar 14 carrying blades 16. An integral reinforcing member 17 extends rearwardly from the point of the finger above the ledger plate and is secured at its rear end above the finger bar 11 to which it is attached by a bolt 18 which also serves to secure the finger to the bar. Packing washers 19 between the bar and the member 17 regulate the clearance above the blades 16. Arms 32, 33, extend laterally from the finger behind and in front of the cutter bar and are adapted to engage the ends of corresponding bars on adjacent fingers. The sides of the members 17 may be provided with serrations 17<1> to assist in holding the crop. The lower side of the member 17 may be provided with a projection to bear against and to hold the cutter down against the ledger plate. The rear portion of the reinforcing member 17 may be of such width that when the fingers are assembled on the bar, a continuous cover is provided above the cutter bar. The lower body portions of the fingers also may be provided with lateral extensions adapted to engage with each other so that a continuous cover below the cutter bar is formed. A shield plate extending the full length of the finger bar may be arranged over the cutter bar, the reinforcing members then being joggled upwardly to clear the shield plate. The surfacing members may be separate from the fingers but secured rigidly thereto independently of the ledger plates.
