Cylinders, cooling; charge, moistening.-Modifications of the water-cooling system described in the parent Specification comprise (1) the use of a water-circulating device of the type described in the parent Specification to draw cool water from the chamber in the bottom of the radiator and deliver it to the chamber at the top thereof, suitable baffles being arranged in both top and bottom chambers to promote a double passage of all cooling water through a radiator; (2) the use of two pipes 23, 21, to establish communication between the induction pipe and the air space in the circulating device by way of an air space 22 in the radiator; (3) the mounting of the sight feed device 17 on the dashboard or elsewhere away from the circulating device, and connecting it thereto by a pipe such as 19; (4) the provision of a trap 35 for moisture in the suction pipe 23 leading to the induction pipe 24, the trap being fitted with a relief valve 27; (5) the use of an automatic valve 3 by means of which the suction in the pipe, 23 may be kept nearly constant; (6) a circulating device in which the vertical pipe carrying an aerated column of air is continuous, air being admitted through the wall of the pipe, and a moisture trap for the suction pipe leading to the induction pipe being formed as an annular chamber surrounding the vertical pipe; and (7) the use of cooling liquids other than water.
