Abstract

197,300. Cremer, H. J. de. May 6, 1922, [Convention date]. Locks, permutation; hasp locks.- The sliding bolt of a permutation lock is blocked by notched sliders, some of which allow passage of the bolt in one of their extreme positions, the rest in the other. The bolt comprises a shank 23 with side flanges 24 having staggered notches 25. The flanges 24 fit into grooves 19 of a pair of blocks 18, the shank 23 sliding between the edges of the blocks at one side, and a filler block 21, of depth greater than the depth of the shank, is riveted between the other two edges. Sliders of the form shown in Figs. 10 and 11 are fitted into the transverse grooves 20 of the blocks 18 and pass through the notches 25 of the bolt flanges 24. The sliders 27 have a notch 29 some distance from the shoulder 30, and others 28 have a notch 31 next to the shoulder 32. Fig. 1 shows the lock applied to a hasp 14 hinged to a plate 13 and engaging over a staple 16. To operate the bolt by means of its finger piece 36, the notches 29, 31 in the sliders must be brought into alignment with the flanges 24 of the bolt. To effect this, the sliders 27 must be left in their extreme inward position and the sliders 28 pulled outwards to their extreme outward position as shown in Figs. 8 and 7, respectively. The shoulders 30, 32 prevent the sliders from being pulled out bodily. The sliders may be interchanged to change the combination. The device may be secured to a door and-engage a staple as an ordinary sliding bolt.
