Abstract

196,682. Shell-Mex, Ltd., and Yates, A. E. Jan. 25, 1922. Fixed-chamber apparatus; varying quantity measured in; with several chambers.-In apparatus specially adapted for delivering viscous fluids such as lubricating oils, which require to be heated, fixed measuring-chambers are used, each of which communicates with a small quantity-adjusting measure whereby compensation may be made for variations in temperature. Each measuring-vessel 1 has an inlet cock 4 at the top communicating with a supply pipe which may be heated by a steam pipe, and an outlet cock at the bottom, the cocks being interconnected. The upper end of each vessel is connected by a tube 7 to a measure 8 screw-threaded internally to receive a disc 9 to which is fastened a tube 10 passing through a gland 11 in the bottom of the measure and provided with a hole 12 directly below the disc 9. A tommy-hole 13 in the tube enables the disc to be screwed up or down to regulate the capacity of the measure, and the tube may be graduated. The measuring-vessels are provided with baffle tubes 16 which prevent liquid from entering the measures until the vessels are full. When overflow from the tubes 10 is noticed the valves are turned so as to deliver the contents of both the measuring vessels and the measures.
