Abstract

195,827. Bulle, M. P. Favre-. Feb. 17, 1922. Electric clocks. - In electromagnetic clocks of the kind wherein the pendulum or the like is maintained in motion by means of current impulses and wherein the pendulum operates an interrupter of the circuit, an auxiliary or regulating interrupter is arranged in series with the main interrupter in the electric circuit and serves to regulate the amplitude of the pendulum. The apparatus is so arranged that the auxiliary interrupter is inoperative when the amplitude is below the normal and the pendulum, under the influence of the current impulses controlled by the main interrupter alone, gradually increases its amplitude to normal, but immediately its amplitude tends to exceed the normal the auxiliary interrupter comes into operation and reduces or suppresses the current impulses. In Fig. 3 the pendulum operates the main interrupter 12, 16, at each vibration but does not affect the auxiliary interrupter until or unless its amplitude is sufficient to cause the pendulum to move the flexible arm 23 when the contacts 22, controlled by the pivoted beam 17, are opened and the circuit is broken. The beam 17 is weighted so that the closing of the contacts 22 is retarded and consequently the coil 9 will cease to receive the successive current impulses which are normally controlled by the main interrupter. In another form the beam 17 may be vertical and act like a metronome pendulum. Fig. 7 shows the auxiliary interrupter in the form of a lever having two figures 38, 39 and a contact piece 34 sliding on a segment having a contacting-surface 35 and an insulating-surface 36. In Fig. 11 as long as the amplitude of the pendulum exceeds the normal the finger 10 is operated bv the pendulum and cannot contact with the stud 7 as a finger of a lever 2 acts as a stop and the circuit is broken. If, however, the amplitude decreases sufficiently the lever 2, which is operated at each vibration, is moved out of the way of the lever 7 which may then contact with stud 6 and close the circuit.
