Abstract

195,456. Goodchild, S. G. Dec. 30, 1921. Sterilizing milk.-Milk &c. are sterilized by being passed through a narrow space between the walls of a heated chamber and a body rotating in the chamber and nearly filling it, propelling blades being attached to the rotating body. In the form shown, the sterilizing chamber is formed of saucer-shaped plates a, g arranged in a casing so as to leave chambers b, h below and above. The rotating body is of lenticular shape as shown and is mounted on a hollow spindle i and is provided with propelling blades y on its upper surface. The spindle i is driven by a steam turbine c, the exhaust from which passes to the chamber b, thence to the chamber h and through a pipe r and the spindle i to the body j, waste steam and condensate escaping through a pipe s. The hollow body j may be replaced by a disc, the sterilizing chamber being correspondingly flattened. In other modifications the body j is of cylindrical form, surrounded by a helical rib.
