Abstract
195,319. Ward Leonard Electric Co., (Assignees of Waller, A. E.). March 28, 1922, [Convention date]. - Resistances, self-supporting. - A series of copper, brass, iron, or other conducting strips 15 are attached to a base 14, resistance elements 1<a> - - 1<e> being supported upon and connected between adjacent strips in displaced positions so as to facilitate dissipation of heat. The resistance elements are formed of thin metal ribbon ribbed or bent into channel form at the main portions 10, Fig. 2, and having flat portions at the ends and at the centre 11. where the element is bent into V form. The flat-end portions are bent to engage the strips 15 and are clamped thereto bv nuts 18 and rectangular washers 17 so that the resistance elements stand out in planes at rightangles to the base 14. Contact segments on the opposite side of the base are connected to the inner ends of the strips 15 by bolts 16, which may also secure the resistance strips 1<a>, 1<d> that are attached to the inner ends of the strips. These segments may be arranged in a straight line or in the arc of a circle, and may be arranged on the same side of the base as the resistance elements.
