Abstract

Weather screens.-Motor-cars &c. provided with folding hoods are fitted with rigid detachable side screens secured to the hood and attached to the body by the fittings which support the hood. On each side of the car, a detachable light rigid side l, formed of sheet steel or three-ply wood, extends form the wind-screen pillar i to which it is secured by the screws k that secure the wind-screen to the pillar. The rear of the side is curved to overlap. the back .portion of the hood h and the two sides may be connected by a transverse rear plate to prevent draughts. Near the bottom of the side, holes are made through which the brackets b, d, that support the hood, are thrust to.secure the side to the body, the rear of the side having a lug l<9> which is secured to the bracket that' normally carries the rest for the folded hood. The top of the side extends above the lower edge of the hood and is secured to the hood-sticks, within the top of the hood, by screw-clamps m. Openings are formed in the sides to correspond to the doors q, r, and these openings may be provided with vertically sliding panels or with hinged panels o, p, which may be arranged to open with the doors, the pivots of their hinges being in alignment with those of the doors. Additional windows t, u are. provided which may comprise a single. fixed pane. or a fixed and a movable pane. The sides may be upholstered or they may be formed of two corresponding pieces of sheet metal separated by some non-conducting material.
