Abstract

Padlocks. - In a padlock of the type in which the shackle. is formed by two equal halves pivoted on separate pivots, the locking is effected by shooting a projection on a tumbler-controller sliding bolt between extension on the arms of the shackle. Fig. 2 shows the padlock in its closed and locked condition. The two shackle arms A, A<1>, are pivoted on pins a, a<1> respectively, and have extensions with faces c, c<1> which are engaged by the projection d of a key-operated sliding bolt D when the arms are closed and the bolt shot. The bolt is controlled by the usual tumblers or levers, and by arms of the springs g, g<1> which automatically throw apart the arms A, A<1>, of the shackle when the bolt D is retracted from between them.
