Abstract

192,587. North, N. E., Campbell, J. P., and Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. Jan. 17,1922. Pneumatic actuation.-An air-connection member, specially adapted for use with a number of electropneumatically operated switches, comprises a ring 28 having a pipe 29 communicating with its interior through a hole in the side. Fig. 3 shows one form, and Fig. 8, wherein holes 28 are formed in a plate pierced by a longitudinal hole 29, another. Fig. 1 shows the invention applied to a contactor switch unit which is operated through a piston 1 by an air supply controlled by an electromagnet 20. The ring 28 is secured by a headed screw 16 and the air-enters through the pipe 29 into a space between the ring 28 and the stem of the screw 16, thence through a hole 32 into the interior of the screw 16 and out past the valve 13. When a common air supply is to be connected to a number of valve casings, the air connection shown in Fig. 8 may be used, or the arrangement shown in Fig. 4 may be adopted wherein the rings 28 are connected in pairs and each casing, excepting the end one, has two rings 28 held in place by one nut 16.
