Cupping.-A sheet metal drawing-press has the lower die connected to a pressure-ring which, in turn, is connected to a rubber &c. buffer in such a manner that a constant predetermined pressure is exerted on the buffer throughout the drawing operation. The arrangement is such that the pressure exerted on the pressure-ring is also constant. The lower die e<13>, Fig. 1, is fitted with a pressure-ring e" which is connected to a quadrant d' pivoted to a fixed bracket f<1>. The quadrant is also linked to a rubber buffer e the compression of which can be regulated by nuts e<2>. The pivot of the links d, d<2> is carried by an adjustable linkage a, a<1> from the press-head b. In a modification, the pressure ring m<3>, Fig. 3, is connected directly to the buffer m<2>, the pressure being regulated by the adjustment of the connection k<3> carried by a bell crank lever k which is controlled by a cam j actuated through linkage from the press-head b.
