Abstract

191,965. Parkinson, E. Jan. 28,1922. Surface and outline gauges for toothed gears. Relates to apparatus of the kind in which the intermeshing gears are mounted on two sliding heads on a support, one of the slides being champed to the support while the other is free to move, and consists in the provision of means to indicate lateral movement of the gear due to inaccuracies in construction. The sliding heads 11, 12 carry horizontal arbors 13, 14 upon which the gears are mounted.. The arbor 13 cannot move lengthways, but the arbor 14 on the movable slide has a free longitudinal movement. It is tapered and enters a bush 16 between which and a surrounding sleeve 18 are roller bearings 17. Longitudinal movement of the arbor 14 is indicated on a dial gauge 15. In a modification, the arbor 14 is carried by an additional slide which moves on top of the main slide 12 and at right angles to it. The arbors may rotate or the wheels may be mounted between collars on non-rotating arbors. The laterally and longitudinally moving slides may be reversed in position, the laterally moving slide being arranged below the other.
