17,384. Defries, G. Dec. 11. Ammonium sulphite and sulphate.-A fertiliser is formed by enriching guano with ammonium sulphate, either by treating it first with sulphur dioxide and then with ammonia to form ammonium sulphite, or by moistening with a solution of ammonium sulphite prepared, for 'example, by passing one gas into a solution of the other. The sulphite becomes oxidized to sulphate.
