[Cognate Application, 6889/16.] Projectiles ; projectile fuses. - Relates to explosive projectiles of the kind in which the propellant cartridge is situated in a perforated socket attached to the base of the projectile for use especially in trench mortars. According to the invention, a time fuse with a percussion cap for igniting it is arranged in the base part of the projectile, and a gas-operated striker for firing the cap to ignite the fuse is arranged in the base of the projectile or in the socket attached thereto. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the striker comprises a large part f<2> fitting like a piston in the socket e, and a shank f<1> fitting a bole in the base d of the projectile opposite the percussion cap b of the time fuses a. Packing h is provided behind the piston part f<2> ; and the firing pin is held at safe by a spring, or a shear wire, or by a set-screw or a pin i adapted to be removed by hand.
