Portable-track wheels.-Portable tracks for vehicle wheels consist of a series of independent shoes A, Fig. 1, attached to the wheels at or near one end by springs m, so that before and after the wheels bear on the shoes, the shoes maintain with respect to the peripheries of the wheels the position they are required to occupy when the wheels commence to bear on them. The wheels are provided with teeth, rollers, &c. which engage teeth, ribs, &c. on the shoes, the outline of the engaging parts on the shoes being determined by the envelope of the successive positions of the engaging parts on the wheels, or vice versa. In the form shown in Fig. 1, rollers B B<1>, B<11> are mounted between the rim, C of the wheel and engage cycloidal teeth e, e' formed by the ends of an upstanding ridge d on the shoes. Fig. 3 shows a construction in which the wheel is formed with a toothed periphery I and the shoes form sections of a rack rail L. Fig.4 shows a construction in which the wheel is provided with large teeth 0 each engaging two rollers M carried by the shoes P. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) comprises also a construction in which the shoes are secured at each end to the wheels by flexible bands or cords ; this subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
