Abstract
14,398. Carolin, E. M. de L'. Nov. 24. Ventilating.-A number of strips A and a cover D are secured to one or both sides, or to the back, of a boot to form air passages B opening at or near the top C of the boot and extending around and over the sides and front of the boot, to the interior of which they communicate through a more or less continuous series of perforations E ; ventilating- holes E<1> may be provided also in the leg of the boot. The invention is particularly applicable to top boots, and when these are made of rubber, the strips A also may be made of rubber, the strips and cover being secured by cementing and vulcanizing ; in the case of a leather or canvas boot, the strips may be made of leather, canvas, whalebone, &c. and, with the cover, may be secured by stitching. A projecting rim G at the top of the boot may be furnished to protect the openings C from the ingress of water. The strips may be reinforced with wire, and the cover by metal or other strips or plates. In some cases, the boot is provided with a loose insole H of leather, cork, rubber, &c., which may be faced with wool or felt. The insole is furnished with a series of grooves J communicating with recesses K at the ball of the foot and heel.
