UNITED STATES Prism ADAM DEUBERT, OF WACHTERSBAOH, HESSE, PRUSSIA, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO HENRY DEUBERT, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
SOLE FOR BOOTS OR SHOES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 369,323, dated September 6, 1887.
Application filed June 18, 1887.
To ctZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADAM DEUBERT, of llVachtersbach, Province of Hesse, Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soles for Boots or Shoes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a shoe with a water-proof yet ventilating sole.
The invention consists in providing a ringshaped oval frame to which the upper is secured, with an inner felt filling, a lower rubber sole, and a still lower leather sole, as hereinafter set forth.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a side view of a shoe embodying my invention, part being shown in the sectiontaken on line 0 c, Fig. 2; and Fig. 2 is a top View of same, part of the upper and insole being broken away.
A in the drawings represents the upper of a shoe embodying my invention.
13 is aleather frame or ring of oval form. The outer edge of this frame or oval ring is cutinto or split, as shown in Fig. 1, to form two outer lips. To the upper of these lips is sewed the upper A, which is turned over said lip, as shown in Fig. 1. To the other lower lip of the frame B are sewed the soles D and F. This sole F is of rubber or analogous water-proof substance, while the lowermost sole, D, is of leather. The frame B, rubber sole F, and leather sole D are sewed together by stitches 6, being let into a slit in the leather sole D. The outer circumference of the frame 13 is equal tothat of the soles D and F, so that on the lower part of the shoe the edges of the said frame and said soles are exposed to view.
Serial No. 241,793. (No model.)
The inner space or opening in the ring shaped frame B, I fill with a layer of felt, E. This felt E rests upon the rubber sole F, as does the embracing-ring-B.
Upon the frame B and felt filling E, I place the insolef. The parts B, F, D, and E at their meeting faces are preferably united by means of some cement suitable for the purpose.
A shoe-sole thus constructed will be waterproof, comfortable to the wearer, and very pliable, there being nothing used which would stiffen the sole, and at the same time it will ventilate the foot. By making the frame B ring-shaped, as shown, I secure a series of desirable resultsviz., by using the frame 13 and sewing thereto the upper and the sole, I lessen the weight of an ordinary shoe, and by filling this ring-shaped frame with felt I secure a soft and comfortable place for the foot and confine the felt fillingin place by the embracing leather ring.
Having now described my invention, what I claim is 1. The combination of the upper A with the ring-shaped frame B, split on the outer edge, forming two lips, to the upper of which lips the upper A is secured, felt filling E within ring 13, and leather sole D, said sole being secured to the lower lip of the frame 13, substantially as set forth.
2. The upper A, combined with the split ring-shaped frame 13, to which the upper A is secured, felt filling E therein, rubber sole F, and leather sole D, secured to the lower lip on the ring B, substantially as described.
