DouglasvonArnhe Patented June 2, 1925.
v UNITED STATES DOUGLAS VON ARNI-IEM, O'IE BERLIN, GERMANY.
BOOT AND SHOE.
Application filed July 8, 1922. Serial No. 573,744.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DoueLAs voN- ARN- HEM, a citizen of the German Republic, and
a resident of Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boots and Shoes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to boots and shoes of the kind provided with .easily renewable l0 tops, and consists in forming the top partly out of superposed layers the inner one of which forms an integral part of the boots and maintains the proper form tightness and appearance of the boot or shoe, while the outer layer can easily be removed so as to eX- pose theinner layer.
The drawing represents a view of the boot or shoe and showing one of the additional layers in course of removal.
The top part of each side of the boot or shoe which is arranged between the lacing straps a and the back strap a of the boot a is composed of several superposed layers a and (l which may either be of the same mate rial as the rest of theboot or of material of a different kind and color.
The outer layer d is connected to the top, for instance by wide stitches, so that it can easily be detached when worn or soiled. Each layer forms a fresh wearing surface.
The edges 6 which surround the detachable layers (l may be raised from the surface of the layer 0 in which case a similarly raised. top band 0 is preferably applied to the boot, so as to form a complete frame within which the parts (Z are accommodated.
The layers 65 have also the advantage of providing additional protection from cold during the cold season.
I claim:
1. Boots or shoes having tops formed partly of superposed layers, the inner layers of which formintegral permanent parts of the boot or shoe and the outer layers being removably connected by stitching to the tops thereof.
2. Boots or shoes having tops formed partly of superposed layers, the inner layers of which form integral parts of the boot or shoe and the outer layers being removably connected by stitching to the tops thereof and surrounded by raised parts of the tops.
3. Boots or shoes having tops formed in part of superposed layers of material, some oi which are removable from the others, the inner layers forming permanent parts of the top and the superposed removable layers being connected to the tops by marginal stitches larger than those securing the inner layers.
4;. Boots or shoes having tops connected to the vamp and lacing, back and binding stays stitched together and to the top, in combination with detachable superposed layers included between said stave and vamp 65 and secured to the edges thereof beyond their lines of stitching.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
DOUGLAS vorv ARNI-IEM.
