Abstract

13,079. Brockie, J., and Johnson & Phillips. Sept. 13. Arc lamps.-A projector or other lamp is regulated by a pneumatic motor E<1>, Fig. 1, of which the speed and direction of running are determined by a valve D electrically controlled, for instance by a shunt, series, or differential electro-magnet. Two shunt coils H<1>, H<2> may surround opposite sides of an horizontal frame, on the two other sides of which are inwardly projecting pole-pieces acting on an armature centrally mounted on a stem L attached to the valve stem. The armature stem L may be provided with ball bearings l. Two coil springs are connected to the armature. The valve D, which is preferably balanced, uncovers ports to varying extents when rotated through small angles from a neutral position. A three-cylinder motor is shown. Compressed air is taken from an external supply.or from a reservoir A. Between a reducing-valve B and the regulating-valve D, there is arranged a main valve C comprising a tapered or other tightlyfitting valve body O, Fig 3, closed by a spring Q or a weight, but opened, during working of the lamp, by a magnet P with co-operating series and shunt coils.
