Abstract

11,767. Lancaster & Tonge, and Butterworth, J. Aug. 14. Piston packing.-A modification in packing of the type described in Specification 22,147/06 consists in forming the engaging surfaces A, Fig. 1, between two packing-rings at an angle of not more than 30 degrees with the edges of the rings, so that the rings are forced apart axially. The engaging surfaces A are placed each at an angle of 30 degrees distant from the joint D, and the projecting part on each ring is grooved to receive a tongue on the other ring. The rings may be split spring rings, as shown in Fig. 1, or may be pressed axially and expanded by a spiral spring M, Fig. 3, lying between projections N on the rings.
